dbt Core
PyPIdbt-coredbt Core is the open-source transformation framework for analytics engineering, compiling SQL models and running them against a data warehouse. It reads warehouse credentials from `profiles.yml` and has full DDL/DML access to the target schema. Most production data teams run dbt Core in CI/CD pipelines connected to production warehouses.

dbt runs with database credentials capable of reading and writing production data. A backdoored version can exfiltrate `profiles.yml` credentials or inject SQL into compiled models before they are executed against the warehouse.
